ADVANCED DIPLOMA OF VISUAL ARTS
ABOUT
“Should” - heavy and constraining, weighted with morality, obligation, duty, correctness, instruction. In this exhibition 10 emerging artists confront this imperative straight on. Expansive in their use and application of materials, they explore identity amorphous and ethereal. Undefined, it might be internal and external; public and private; acknowledged, still hidden and quietly emerging; not the one but the many. There are references to past histories; the weight and comfort of memories; the restrictions of expectation; the options glimpsed for the open road ahead. The overall sense is of anticipation and energy - a future luminous with possibilities.
Anchored on the wall, or hanging perilously off it, rising from the floor or sinking almost through it, suspended, elevated, balanced, and precarious. The viewer is freed to roam this exhibition, under no obligation, finding questions asked and maybe answered......or not.
